Backtesting stochastic mortality models by prediction interval-based metrics

چکیده

Abstract Human lifespan increments represent one of the main current risks for governments and pension health benefits providers. Longevity societies imply financial sustainability challenges to guarantee adequate socioeconomic conditions all individuals a longer period. Consequently, modelling population dynamics projecting future longevity scenarios are vital tasks policymakers. As an answer, demographic actuarial literature have been introduced compared several stochastic mortality models, although few studies thoroughly tested uncertainty concerning projections. Forecasting levels central role since they reveal potential, unexpected rise related economic impact. Therefore, present study poses methodological framework backtest in projections by exploiting metrics not yet adopted literature. Using data from Mortality Database male female populations five countries, we some numerical applications illustrate how proposed criterion works. The results show that there is no model overperforming others cases, best choice depends on considered.

Backtesting Stochastic Mortality Models: An Ex-Post Evaluation of Multi-Period-Ahead Density Forecasts

This study sets out a backtesting framework applicable to the multiperiod-ahead forecasts from stochastic mortality models and uses it to evaluate the forecasting performance of six different stochastic mortality models applied to English & Welsh male mortality data. The models considered are the following: Lee-Carter’s 1992 one-factor model; a version of Renshaw-Haberman’s 2006 extension of th...

mortality forecasting based on lee-carter model

over the past decades a number of approaches have been applied for forecasting mortality. in 1992, a new method for long-run forecast of the level and age pattern of mortality was published by lee and carter. this method was welcomed by many authors so it was extended through a wider class of generalized, parametric and nonlinear model. this model represents one of the most influential recent d...

Models for stochastic climate prediction.

There has been a recent burst of activity in the atmosphere/ocean sciences community in utilizing stable linear Langevin stochastic models for the unresolved degree of freedom in stochastic climate prediction. Here several idealized models for stochastic climate modeling are introduced and analyzed through unambiguous mathematical theory. This analysis demonstrates the potential need for more s...

Backtesting for Risk - Based Regulatory Capital

In this paper we present a framework for backtesting all currently popular risk measurement methods (including value-at-risk and expected shortfall) using the functional delta method. Estimation risk can be taken explicitly into account. Based on a simulation study we provide evidence that tests for expected shortfall with acceptable low levels have a better performance than tests for value-at-...

Stochastic mortality models: an infinite-dimensional approach

Demographic projections of future mortality rates involve a high level of uncertainty and require stochastic mortality models. The current paper investigates forward mortality models driven by a (possibly infinite dimensional) Wiener process and a compensated Poisson random measure. A major innovation of the paper is the introduction of a family of processes called forward mortality improvement...
